Learn to Play the Bansuri

If you would like an in-person introduction or to attend a workshop, you are welcome to contact Anton. Depending on where you are based, he may be able to guide you toward a suitable teacher or trusted online resources. If you are in South Africa, he can also assist with the purchase of a suitable bansuri flute to help you begin your journey.

Getting started

If you are new to the bansuri, the following short steps can help you begin gently and confidently:

Step 1 – Holding the bansuri and producing your first sound
Finger position, balance, and blowing into the flute.

These early steps are not about mastering technique, but about learning to listen – to the flute, to your breath, and to the space around you.

Structured online learning

For those seeking structured, ongoing study, one of the most respected platforms available is iSM Circle – an Indian music learning hub that connects students worldwide with the traditions of Indian art music.

When travel to Vrindaban Gurukul in Mumbai was not possible in 2020, Anton continued his studies online through iSM Circle. In 2022, he graduated as Bansuri Guru, completing all three levels as part of his own dedicated journey with the instrument. He warmly recommends the platform to new students seeking structured and authentic guidance.

Through iSM Circle, you can study bansuri, tabla, and vocal, with courses curated by masters themselves. Depending on your priorities, time, and learning goals, you can choose between:

Self-Learn courses are flexible, allowing you to move at your own pace.

Certified courses provide deeper course material, the chance to submit assignments for feedback from real mentors, and the opportunity to receive certification from a premier institute such as Vrindaban Gurukul in Mumbai.
